Mechanical Engineering is a very broad topic. Too broad. Important in Mechanical Engineering is: does the product/part break or deform too much. To determine this, knowledge of materials and mechanics is needed.
Line 8: Line 8:
Important topics for Industrial Designers are: Applied Physics, Materials, Mechanics, Simulation and Finite Element Analysis.  * [[MechanicalEngineeringIntroduction|Introduction]]

To operate more complex products very often sensors and actuators are needed. Thus knowledge of how sensors and actuators work is needed. To control the actuators, given the sensor inputs, also knowledge of system behaviour and controllers are needed.

All software packages are made freely available for Industrial Design students. Simulink is available as part of Matlab, available from the TU/e PC software page. Solidworks and CES Edupack are available from the faculties software page.
